Ultimate Victory

September 17, 2011

My pastor was preaching for the last time. Some financial and legal challenges had become insurmountable, and he was not even allowed to take up one last offering, so the church was shutting down. Nothing like that is going to happen to our house, but it means that adversity can get as bad as our fear allows it to.

I went over to his house to eat with his family, and I shared what I thought was truly happening. He has declared that once the church becomes debt free, we do not need to anticipate ever getting in debt again. Because debt has both financial and spiritual meaning, the whole truth is that after this season of adversity of any kind, there is going to be no more adversity that will not be squashed very quickly, sin is altogether on its way out, and the enemy is scared to death of that.

This is a season of ultimate victory.

Know, Love, and Obey

September 11, 2011

It follows that until you know somebody, you cannot completely love them and that only after you love them can you fully obey them. God is no different. I really understand people who do not want to obey God; they do not love Him. I really understand people who do not want to love God; they do not know Him. I really understand people who do not know Him; they haven’t experienced His love and think He is less than perfect. The only answer to somebody who does not know God is to be godly in front of them and pray they come to know Him personally through Jesus Christ.

Most people want to know the meaning of life or their purpose in life. For somebody who listens to and reads God’s Word in the Bible, this becomes simple. Jesus said, "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" (John 17:3, NASB).

Most people want to love and be loved. Jesus said the greatest commandments are "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind" and "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:34-40, NASB). John wrote that people who do not love do not know God for "God is love" (1 John 4:8, NASB). That makes it very obvious that if you know that God is love, you will love God (and those in His images), because who does not love love? Only those who do not know it.

Most people want to obey what they understand is good for them. Jesus put it this way, "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments" (John 14:15, NASB). That seems pretty straightforward, so why is it that so many fall into the trap of saying that Jesus Christ is their Savior but not their Lord? Those concepts are inseparable, just like God’s nature being gracious and merciful as well as holy and righteous. Jesus Christ is not a pass; He is a person, so if you know Him, you either love and obey Him or you do neither.

Caution: Nobody is saved who does not even intend to grow in obedience to God’s standards, because they do not love Him. Anyone who says different is kidding themselves.
Encouragement: You know God before you can love Him. When you know and love Him, obedience follows steadily, and you can’t accidentally do something bad enough to screw up that relationship.

Babbling & Power

September 5, 2011

God did not form the universe with His hands. The only thing God lowered Himself to form personally was man. Everything else, God spoke into existence, and even before God created man in His own image, He said, "Let us…" So there was nothing created without the Word of God. John tells us that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, WAS the Word of God, the very creative force that transferred what was in God’s mind in the unseen to what we can see, hear, touch, taste, and smell.

There was a time when the people of Babel were united in one speech, and they were able to accomplish whatever they agreed upon. They began to succeed in building a tower to reach in to Heaven, which was not God’s plan, so guess how He stopped them… Instead of changing the laws of physics, destroying the tower, or killing them, God felt that the most effective way to humble them was simply to confuse their language, disabling them from accomplishing whatever they agreed upon, because they could not agree with chaotic speech. Since Jesus’ time, the world has been united in common languages such as Latin, Greek, and now English, not to mention the countless programs and translators that make worldwide unity possible.

Paul wrote that God gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist, like when He called Abraham a father of many nations before he had even had one child. Jesus’ brother James taught that blessing and cursing are in the tongue, and he also wrote that the only reason we don’t have something is because we have not asked for it or because we have asked for fleshly, selfish, wrong motives. Jesus Himself taught that whatever we agree upon and ask for in Jesus’ name, believing we will receive it, will show up. He said that somebody with faith the size of a mustard seed (and no doubt canceling out the faith) can make a mountain move by telling it to. In other words, we also create with our anointed words of faith.

We are made in God’s image, predestined to be like Jesus Christ, the creative, living Word of God, and we are indwelt with God’s Holy Spirit, who empowers the words we say. Let us not give life to whatever we see, hear, or feel at any given time, even when it is negative, because that would be submitting to our environment and perpetuating it. Let us give life to dead things by telling our obstacles to be removed and replaced by bridges and tunnels to blessing. Let us speak death to anything that destroys and life to anything that builds up.

Whether or not we see God’s name being sanctified, let us announce Father, your name is sanctified, Whether or not we see God’s Kingdom coming and His will being done on Earth as it is in Heaven, let us declare that Heaven IS coming to Earth, and we will thereby heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons, preparing the way for Christ’s return.

Influence/Leadership

September 4, 2011

Influence: A man named Paul, who influenced the entire Greco-Roman world in his time and subsequently the entire world, once wrote, “But having the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, ‘I believed, therefore I spoke,’ we also believe, therefore we also speak.” (2nd Corinthians 4:13, NASB)

People may lie for a time, but everybody ultimately voices what they truly believe about their circumstances, others, and the world. There are countless Bible verses that support the fact that our speech, good or bad, is the primary influence over our present and our future state of being, so unless we sincerely train our beliefs and speech to become positive, we will continue to confess and experience the same or worse. Who in history has had a great influence on the world, good or bad, who did not declare their determination in advance?

Leadership: James, a half-brother of Jesus who did not believe He was the Christ and the Son of God, later confessed that His older brother was Lord and believed in his heart that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. He wrote, “Look at the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot desires. So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things… With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing.” (James 4:4-5… 9-10, NASB)

With the words that James said and wrote, he led billions of people into eternal life, knowing God and His Son Jesus Christ. Just as nothing reflects our true beliefs and influences our reality like words do, so also nothing guides those around us on a greater level. What we read, the people we listen to the most, and with whom we spend the most time, good or bad, determine our future for as long as those words coming into and out of us never change.
